Silvi Marina, spiaggia top per il “Sunday Times”

SILVI MARINA (Teramo) - E’ una deliziosa località in riva all’Adriatico abruzzese, con la bandiera blu issata sul pennone da due anni. Come le altre sei spiagge della costa teramana. Forse è la meno nota. Silvi Marina, però, da ieri, ha qualcosa in più, di cui andar fiera. Una cartolina scritta in inglese, che è un biglietto da visita unico ed ambito sul mercato del turismo internazionale. Il Sunday Times, infatti, boccia le spiagge italiane, ma promuove a pieni voti Silvi Marina. L’unica gemma del Belpaese, citata dall’autorevole quotidiano inglese nella annuale classifica delle ”Europès top 20 beaches”, a sorpresa, non è qualche caletta della Costa Smeralda o una spiaggia in Sicilia, Puglia, Versilia, ma, appunto, Silvi Marina. Incantevole, ma fino a ieri poco nota. Il Sunday Times definisce la località teramana «la tipica spiaggia italiana con file di sdraio e ombrelloni ordinati bene in fila sulla sabbia gialla, il mare pulito, il paesaggio caratterizzato da pini e oleandri». In tre anni di ricerca, l’Università inglese di Glamorgan alla quale si deve il sondaggio, ha intervistato un largo numeri di turisti di tutto il mondo su quale sia la loro spiaggia ideale ed ha elaborato, in conclusione, una vera e propria formula matematica di ben ventotto variabili (dalla trasparenza dell’acqua, al colore della sabbia, alla bellezza del paesaggio) per identificare ”scientificamente” la spiaggia dei sogni. Il Sunday Times premia la Grecia con ben sei spiagge su 20: Psili Ammos, Milopotas, Koukounaires, Planos, Voidokilia, Sweetwater; poi Francia e Spagna con quattro menzioni a testa: Courtade e Loto, Saleggia e Palombaggia in Corsica da una parte, Benirras-Ibiza, Plaja de la Concha, Agua Amarga e Portals Vells-Majorca dall’altra. Onori anche per Turchia con Patara, Galles con Oxwich Bay, Scozia con Traigh Scarasta e, guarda caso, anche l’Inghilterra con la baia di Whipsiderry.

Where? In Abruzzo, on the Adriatic coast.
Why? Silvi Marina looks typically Italian, with neat rows of sun loungers and umbrellas laid out across fine yellow sand. The sea is calm and clear — ideal for an early-morning swim — and the front is lined with pines and oleanders. But the big reason for flopping here is the charming, family-run Mion Hotel, a perfect base for exploring Abruzzo's Renaissance churches, medieval villages, lakes and mountains.
Where to stay: the four-star Mion (00 39-085935 0935; doubles from £67, half-board).
Where to eat: the hotel's restaurant is excellent, as is La Casina Rosa (085 828 9744), in San Pellegrino. Local specialities include guazzetto, a spicy fish soup.
